Ajutor de urgență pentru urșii ţinuţi ilegal de fostul președinte ucrainean Viktor Ianukovici

O echipă a organizației internaționale VIER PFOTEN a acordat asistență și a îmbunătățit în ultimele zile situația celor cinci urși bruni ținuți în condiții improprii şi ilegale la reședința de iarnă a fostului președinte Viktor Ianukovici. După zile în care nu au fost nici măcar adăpaţi, urșii au primit fructe proaspete, legume și apă.

Urșii sunt ținuți în condiții total neadaptate speciei lor, fapt ce necesită o îmbunătățire imediată. Femela stă alături de cei trei pui într-o cușcă extrem de mică și întunecată, în vreme ce masculul este ținut într-o cușcă separată. Ambele cuști sunt pline de excremente, iar podeaua a fost transformată într-o mocirlă în urma ploilor abundente din ultimele două săptămâni. „Personalul reședinței s-a ocupat de urși pe cât s-a priceput. Când echipa noastră a ajuns, joia trecută, urșii nu aveau nici măcar apă să bea. Peste toate acestea, actuala situație politică din Ucraina nu ne ajută să ne dăm seama dacă situația va rămâne la fel, sau cine  va avea grijă de acești urși pe viitor”, declară Carsten Hertwig, expert în urși al VIER PFOTEN.

Urșii sunt proprietate a statului, nu a personalului, astfel că VIER PFOTEN se afla în contact cu directorul reședinței prezidențiale pentru a-și oferi sprijinul pe termen lung.

„Următorul pas va fi să îmbunătățim locul în care stau urșii, iar obiectivul va fi de a construe un țarc mai larg pe această proprietate. Totodată, ursul mascul trebuie sterilizat. Am constatat că ursoaica a fătat deja de mai multe ori, iar puii au fost vânduți”, a adăugat Carsten Hertwig.

Comerțul cu urși este ilegal în Ucraina. Urșii bruni sunt protejați de lege, iar ținerea lor în condiții improprii este interzisă. Totuși, situația politică face aproape imposibil deocamdată un demers oficial pe lângă autoritățile competente. VIER PFOTEN își va continua însă eforturile pentru a asigura un viitor sigur acestor urși.
