Originally conceived as a private gift among friends to mark Yoko Ono’s 80th birthday – and now published at her request – SEE HEAR YOKO is a photographic tribute to an icon of contemporary American cultural history. The book, containing intimate portraits by legendary rock and roll photographer Bob Gruen, captures the complexity of Yoko Ono – activist, wife and mother from her days with John Lennon through the present.
Bob Gruen, who served as personal photographer to Lennon and Ono, documented their relationship as a couple and her life as a woman, wife, mother, avant-garde artist and peace activist. With words by Yoko Ono, edited from 25 years of candid conversations with Jody Denberg, mainstay of Austin TX rock radio, the book contains more than two hundred classic color and black and white photos from Gruen that intimately illuminate the life of an extraordinary woman.
Lavishly designed, including an introduction by Gruen and Denberg, a thank-you note from Ono, and published in partnership with Infinitum Nihil (Johnny Depp’s imprint), SEE HEAR YOKO describes a woman in love, in grief, in ascension and still at the forefront of creating art while working endlessly for peace.
Containing hundreds of photos in a stunning package, this is a must-have volume for photography collectors, cultural historians, art aficionados and rock and roll fans everywhere.
